As
I look outside the ground is covered in glistening snow and snowflakes are
dancing in the air. Winter has definitely made its presence known. For some it
is a beautiful sight; others are dreaming of warmer days. Each person has a
unique perspective on snow.
Although lately the weather has been on almost everyone’s mind, I
invite you to shift away from the physical nature of snow to consider the
metaphorical nature of snow. The Scriptures declare that when we confess our
sins God makes us whiter than snow. Isaiah 1:18 says, "Come now, let us reason
together," says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall
be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be
like wool.”
Some of you have entered
this New Year carrying the baggage of past sins with you. You view your life as
anything but pure and white. You worry that everyone can see the sins of your
past; and, thus you are trapped in a self-created prison.
Friend, I want you to live as a freed person. You need not live a
life trapped by your sins. We have just celebrated the birth of Jesus; and we
are to be continually mindful of the purpose for his life. Jesus Christ came to
the world to save sinners. He came to set humanity free from the bondage of
sin.
There is no reason to carry your past sins into 2009. Jesus Christ
is ready to forgive you! Jesus sacrificed his life so that you and I could have
abundant life. Do not waste a precious moment in this year harboring past
sins. Release yourself. There is no sin too big or awful that God is not ready
and willing to forgive. Pride sometimes keeps us from turning over our sins to
God. Pride that keeps us separated from God is sin. Let it go! Do it right
now.
While I have little control over the weather, I personally have been
graced with the gift of forgiveness and my sins are as white as snow. I have
made a choice to free myself from the self-imposed prison of sin. I hope you
will allow God to free you from your sins and step into this New Year as a
grace-filled person! If you are struggling with a particular sin issue in your
life, please know that I would be more than willing to meet with you. Do not
hesitate to call or stop by the office.
I recognize that sin is
powerful, but God will prevail. I pray that as you gaze upon the snow you will
be reminded of God’s forgiveness.
God Bless,
